Wife is retiring in March after 30 years with Alameda County. I feel your pain with regard to job searching, as I'm in that process trying to find something suitable in the Yuba City area. Olivehurst is about as far away as I'm willing to commute from Yuba City. We bought a nice 4br/3ba house in Yuba City. Nice quiet neighborhood. We're taking our time moving up, mostly because we've done the mad scramble moves before, where we packed everything not nailed down and loaded it on the truck, and we want to weed out junk that has been in the garage or in the loft over the den for more than 10 years that we will probably never use. Why Yuba City? A host of reasons, among them being in a smaller town with less traffic. Family in the area. Close enough to visit with, but not so close they'll be dropping in unannounced. Yuba City has everything we need within a reasonable distance from the house. Lowe's and Home Depot, as well as Meek's Lumber. The nearest Fry's is, alas, in Sacramento. Winco Foods, Wal-Mart, Sam's Club, Raley's, and plenty of fast food places. We have a few places we like to go when we eat out. The Happy Viking, Lumberjack, Perko's, and we're on the hunt for a good Mexican restaurant and a good Szechuan place.
